MILAN, Nov. 5 (Class Editori) -- The 4th edition of China International Import Expo (CIIE), one of the main multi-sector fairs worldwide and currently ongoing in Shanghai, is hosting a hundred Made-in-Italy companies divided into three pavilions. The initiative was launched by President Xi Jinping to highlight the opening of the Chinese market to international goods.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Expo, which will end on next November 10 and is currently being held at the Shanghai National Exhibition Convention Center, attracted tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world, while now it is limited to the local market, and not only because of the stricter measures implemented to halt the spread of new outbreaks in the country that led authorities to close China's borders.
The inauguration ceremony has been virtually attended by worldwide Heads of State and Governments, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, who stressed that the economic recovery must be "inclusive and sustainable". Luca Ferrari, Ambassador of Italy to the People's Republic of China, was also present.
Italy's presence at the CIIE features more than 100 companies in three commercial pavilions dedicated to the environmental technology, medical and jewelry sectors.
In his pre-recorded video message, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said that the CIIE is "one of the biggest trade promotion events in China and globally and that Italian entrepreneurial fabric is present in force. The Expo in Shanghai can play an important role in promoting a more inclusive and sustainable economic recovery, subjects that have been at the heart of the agenda of the Italian Presidency of the G20 and COP26 in Glasgow, in partnership with the UK".
Meanwhile, the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC), which represents about 600 companies operating in the Asian country, announced an important first step in establishing direct and continuous connections between Italy and China, which had been interrupted until now.
On the weekly flight that Neos Air, Alpitour Group's private Italian company, has started this month connecting Milan Malpensa and Tianjin Airports, CICC has reserved a number of seats at reasonable prices available for Italian citizens, mainly employees or family members of people who work in China in the companies associated with the Chamber.
