BEIJING, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Deep beneath the sea areas near Pingtan Island of Fujian Province in east China lies a network of submarine cables pulsing with electricity that brings light and warmth to local people.
Maintaining these submarine cables is rather challenging and sharp anchors of passing ships pose a constant threat to the submarine cables, said Chen Weiqiang, senior transmission line inspector at the operation and maintenance department of State Grid Pingtan Power Supply Company.
A recent fault happened to one of the submarine cables in Pingtan bore witness to the highly timely urgent repair by the company, which is committed to securing the safe operation of these submarine cables and helping build green eco-islands there.
When a pod of playful dolphins appeared in the waters around Pingtan recently, their graceful dorsal fins and swimming gestures formed a beautiful harmony with the distant spinning white wind turbines.
