BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) -- South China's Guangzhou will build Shazai Island into China's largest automobile logistics hub island with 8 ro-ro car berths, 1.8 kilometers of dock coastline, and more than 1.6 million square meters of automobile yard, according to Guangzhou Port Group.
Shazai Island is located in the geometric center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. There are currently 5 ro-ro car berths. The newly built offshore wharf on the island will go through trail operation in June and will be officially put into use within this year.
Guangzhou port has completed loading and unloading of 1.501 million commercial vehicles in 2020, ranking top among coastal port groups nationwide in terms of throughput.
Sea transportation is an important method of automobile transportation. At present, the international liner routes of Guangzhou port have covered more than 400 ports in over 200 countries and regions in Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe and America.
