InfoQuest (April 9, 2021) - According to the Center for Economic and Business Forecasting, University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the consumer confidence index in Thailand was 48.5 in March 2021, down from 49.4 in February.
The overall economic sentiment index was 42.5, the employment confidence index was 45.3, and the future income confidence index was 57.7, all slightly down from those in February.
"The main reason for the CCI decline is the public's concern about the resurgence of the pandemic and a turbulent political landscape," said Thanawan Phonwichai, director of the Center.
The forbidden various activities during the Songkran Festival, the downgrade of expected economic growth by the Financial Institutions Policy Committee, and the political rally all aroused people's concern.
To boost the economy, the government has taken a range of measures and the Financial Institutions Policy Committee agreed to maintain the policy interest rate at 0.50 percent per year. Besides, the prices of various agricultural products have risen or remained high.
