BEIJING, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The northern Chinese port city of Tianjin saw its agricultural product export in the first two months reach 1.05 billion yuan, up 34.8 percent year on year, reported Tianjin Daily on Friday quoting data from Tianjin Customs.
The export growth rate was 18.7 percentage points higher than the national average, according to official data.
From January to February, Tianjin exported 150 million yuan of ketchup, showing a surge of 82.5 percent year on year and accounting for 14.6 percent of the city's total agricultural product export. Noticeably, the export of small-packed ketchup was 80.765 million yuan, ranking first in China and accounting for 41.2 percent of the country's export of goods of the same kind.
During the period, the city's export of sunflower seeds amounted to 90.497 million yuan, accounting for 8.6 percent of Tianjin's total export of agricultural products. The export of casings for sausage and pickles rose 35.3 percent and 15.7 percent respectively.
In terms of export destinations, Tianjin exported 180 million yuan of agricultural products to Japan in the first two months, up 11.8 percent year on year. During the period, Tianjin's export of agricultural products to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Africa increased 101.5 percent and 17.3 percent year on year respectively.
Private enterprises are the main driving force for the export growth of Tianjin's agricultural products. In the first two months, private enterprises in Tianjin exported 730 million yuan of agricultural products, up 35.5 percent year on year. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
