BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- East China's Anhui Province saw its foreign trade with Belt and Road countries spike 55.5 percent year on year to 23.23 billion yuan in the first two months of this year, according to Hefei Customs.
Among them, exports surged to 16.64 billion yuan, registering a 56.4 percent increase over the same period of last year, while imports totaled 6.59 billion yuan, a rise of 53.5 percent.
During the period, exports and imports of products under the general trade category, which are differentiated from processing trade, grew 50.3 percent to 18.09 billion yuan.
Private enterprises played a vital role in driving the province's foreign trade, with their trade with Belt and Road countries amounting to 12.53 billion yuan in the first two months of this year, up 55.4 percent.
Mechanical and electrical products remained the province's dominant category of exports, with the export volume totaling 10.79 billion yuan during the period.
