BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Transport has recently unveiled a guideline to promote development and application of the self-driving technology, encouraging localities to carry out pilot and commercial operations such as self-driving vehicle sharing, ferry connections, and smart parking service, the Shanghai Securities News reported on Thursday.
The country will promote the pilot and demonstration application of self-driving technology. It will support the development of self-driving cargo transportation service and self-driving passenger transportation service, and encourage the development of new self-driving businesses.
According to the guideline, by 2025, positive progress will be made in the research on the basic theory of self-driving, and important breakthroughs will be made in the development and test verification of key technologies such as intelligent road infrastructure and vehicle-road collaboration.
The release of the guideline is a practical need to implement major strategies such as building the country's strength in transportation, and promote domestic technology and industrial development, said Pang Song, an official of the ministry.
