New freight train route links eastern Chinese city with Europe's largest inland port

Abstract : A new China-Europe freight train route has been launched, linking the city of Xuzhou in east China's Jiangsu Province with Europe's largest inland port, the Port of Duisburg in Germany.

NANJING, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- A new China-Europe freight train route has been launched, linking the city of Xuzhou in east China's Jiangsu Province with Europe's largest inland port, the Port of Duisburg in Germany.

The first freight train on this route left Xuzhou on Monday, carrying 46 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of goods worth more than 11 million yuan (about 1.68 million U.S. dollars), including auto parts and household appliances.

The train will leave China via the China-Mongolia border port of Erenhot and is scheduled to reach its final destination in approximately 23 days on the 13,000-km-long route.

Since the beginning of this year, the number of China-Europe freight trains has exceeded 10,000, according to data from the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. Enditem
