BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) – Beijing has offered the first five licenses for unattended road test to Baidu Pollo, a self-driving division under China's internet giant Baidu on December 4, reported Beijing Daily Tuesday.
After obtaining the license, entities could conduct open self-driving road test without the supervision of safety officers.
Beijing has issued relevant policies on self-driving road test on November 12, specifying that entity need to obtain T3 or above testing grade, the safety testing mileage of at least 30,000 kilometers on open road, and pass the unmanned testing assessment in closed area for applying for the unmanned road test.
It is noted that under the T3 testing grade, the vehicle can let the driver have no control of the vehicle in a specific driving traffic environment, and can automatically detect the changes in the environment to determine whether to return to the driver's driving mode.
Completely unmanned road testing requires a significant increase in the reliability of self-driving system, while cutting costs for the operation of self-driving vehicles, making it the commanding height of technology in the industry.
Considering the road safety of self-driving vehicles, Baidu revealed that at present, self-driving system are equipped with 5G cloud driving system, which can be remotely controlled by security officers to quickly extricate self-driving vehicles from the difficulties encountered in manmade road accident.
