According to a new survey, the majority of companies in North Germany's wholesale and export sector are using the coronavirus crisis for digitalization. Among the biggest innovation measures were investments in IT infrastructure, process innovations, and the automation of business processes, according to a survey of members conducted by the AGA business association from October 27 to November 12. More than half of the companies surveyed (54 percent) intend to increase their capital expenditure in the next two years, the association announced on Monday. A quarter of the companies already have their own innovation department or want to set one up.
"The lockdown has prompted many companies to implement further innovations," AGA CEO Volker Tschirch said. "Small and medium-sized companies have shown themselves to be agile and crisis-proof even in the coronavirus pandemic."
According to AGA’s own information, the business association represents 3,500 companies in Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Schleswig-Holstein. The companies combined employ around 150,000 people and have an annual turnover of 288 billion euros.
