InfoQuest (November 4, 2020) - Chairwoman of the Thai National Shippers' Council (TNSC) Ghanyapad Tantipipatpong adjusted Thailand's export forecast for 2020 to a 7 percent drop from 8-10 percent.
According to TNSC, the global economy and trade recovery, and the economic resurgence of China and the United States rebound Thailand's export; some commodities see continuously rising exports, showing a positive real sector.
Certainly, risk factors are inevitable, such as the increasing number of COVID-19 infections in Europe, shortage of transport ships and containers on several international logistics routes, firm baht exchange rate, unstable factors caused by the U.S. fiscal incentives, and receding imports.
To this end, TNSC proposes to intensify the propaganda on Thailand's COVID-19 control, support the development of international logistics, and conduct an all-round governmental investigation into the service fee structure and fee collection of international maritime transport.
TNSC calls for prompt solutions to urgent logistics issues, such as the service and service fee issues of Laem Chabang Port A, exempts barges carrying containers to China through the Chao Phraya River Delta waterway from Laem Chabang Ports, and remains the baht exchange rate at 34 baht to 1 U.S. dollar.
TNSC advises the Ministry of Commerce to assist sugar exporters. As requested by Vietnam Sugar and Sugarcane Association and sugar producers, the Vietnamese government will launch an anti-dumping and countervailing (AD/CVD) investigation.
TNSC is expected to keep the amount of rubber wood cut at 400,000 rai per year, given that the Ministry of Agriculture once reduced the amount to 200,000, which had a certain impact on the rubber wood processing industry, especially the furniture industry.
On the public roads between Laem Chabang Industrial Park and Laem Chabang Port, exported vehicles without license plate are allowed, to ensure such vehicles can be transported to the port for sea transportation.
