InfoQuest (September 29 2020) – The Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE) and the Office of Agricultural Development Research (OADR) of Thailand signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on partnership. The MOU intends to integrate more science and technology in research, make use of Big Data and AI to develop a new agricultural system, and realize world-class agriculture in this country.
According to Mr. Raphiphat Chantrasriwong, Secretary-general of OAE, the MOU will turn the fruitful research results into practice, and provide reference for agricultural policy-making. It helps create more added value of agricultural products, improve the quality of industrial insiders, and expand influence of research results for better agricultural development in Thailand.
Committed to the education, analysis and research of agricultural economics, the Office combines research results with sci-tech innovations to provide reference for national policymaking and data support to all stakeholders.
The OAE requires that the research results should be concrete, practical and referential. Thanks to the support of OADR, the partnership is beneficial for the joint research and long-term stability of agriculture. The OAE will import the agricultural data into its National Agricultural Big Data Center (NABC), which will be used to develop an AI-based agricultural system and the agricultural calendars for different changwats in Thailand. As the major coordinator of agricultural development plans of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), the Office will further apply Big Data and the calendars in EEC agricultural development. As a result, the income of agricultural workers will be parallel to that of industrial workers. EEC will be a template of Thailand's agricultural development in the new era that implements the MOAC Minister's thought on "market-oriented production".
Mr. Suvit Chaigiartiyod, Director of OADR thanks the OAE for the professional assistance. The OAE has abundant experience in analyzing events, developing local agricultural plans, judging situation and trend, guiding operation, study of water supply and economic plants, etc. So far the OADR has developed the Platform TARR Thailand that contains over 40,000 research reports. When connected with the NABC of OAE, the platform will be of great benefit to the agricultural database system in Thailand.
The agricultural research and innovation in the new era will better satisfy the needs of all stakeholders, address urgent issues and realize the high-quality agricultural development in Thailand especially in the EEC region. Some research projects have been started by OADR in the EEC region e.g. oil supply of palms, tapioca flour for infants, Smart Pest Warning System, and cosmetics made by Durian extracts. The research project of "Utilization of Huai Samong Reservoir Area to Meet the Increasing Need of EEC Land Use" is funded by the OADR and implemented by Thailand Development Research Institute Foundation.
