BEIJING, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's steel sector registered sustainable output growth in the first seven months of this year, industry data showed.
The output of pig iron gained 3.2 percent year on year to 510.86 million tonnes from January to July, while that of rolled steel rose 3.7 percent from the same period last year to 723.95 million tonnes, according to the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA).
Crude steel output increased 2.8 percent year on year to 593.17 million tonnes in the period, the CISA data showed.
Major steelmakers gained 2.47 trillion yuan of revenue during the period, up 3.3 percent year on year, while their profits slumped 28.6 percent from the same period of last year to 86.87 billion yuan.
According to the CISA, China's steel industry is expected to maintain stable growth in the future.
