MILAN, Sept. 2 (Class Editori) – China Eastern Airlines is reinforcing its presence in Italy in a sustainable perspective. The airline will fly with the new green fleet with low emissions, in line with the Belt & Road Initiative directives.
Therefore, China Eastern Airlines is particularly looking at Italy as one of the main international markets. According to the editor of MSCI global indexes, the Chinese company has gained the A rating in the latest ESG parameters (Environmental, Social, Governance- the three pillars at the basis of sustainability standards).
In terms of energy saving, the airline has succeeded in reducing fuel consumption per ton/km by 4.3% in 2019 compared to the same value recorded in 2017.
This means that in the last two years China Eastern Airlines has reached an average annual saving in fuel amounting at about 200k tons and a reduction in CO2 emissions up to 610k tons. On the occasion of the eight year since the opening of the Shanghai-Rome route, China Eastern Airlines has chosen to employ the A350-900 aircraft, a brand-new model it has just launched.
China Eastern Airlines is also promoting the replacement of diesel vehicles, which are used in land operations, with electric vehicles and has carried out a change in the treatment of exhaust emissions of some vehicles, aimed at reducing particulate pollutants and about 50% of nitrogen oxide emissions.
The CSR projects of China Eastern Airlines in Italy are particularly focused on the reduction in CO2 emissions, stabilization of local employees, participation to activities addressed to education and community support as well as the promotion of cultural exchanges and the building of a public security system.
