MILAN, July 31 (Class Editori) - Italian businessmen come back to China. Today, at 9.30 a.m. local time, a Neos flight landed in Tianjin with 271 businessmen and employees of Italian companies active in China on board. Before resuming their activities at full power, they will have to stay in quarantine for the 14 days required by Beijing.
The comeback has been possible thanks to the commitment of the task force created by the Italian Embassy and the Chamber of Commerce. It is the second flight organized with the support of the airline. At the beginning of July, a first charter landed with 144 Italian passengers on board, who needed to come back to China, even though the direct connections between the two countries are officially suspended and despite the difficulties in obtaining entry visas. Among the procedures to allow the departure of the charter flight, there was also the mandatory COVID-19 swab for all the passengers.
The costs of the Comeback operation have been covered, partly, by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. On the return flight, the charter will take to Italy personal protective equipment given by China. The transfer is included in the well-structured operation launched in June, in order to promote the return to China of the Italian business community. At the arrival, the staff of the Italian Embassy in Beijing and the Chamber of Commerce welcomed the passengers.
“This second flight followed the first, which landed in Nanjing on last July 2”, as Luca Ferrari- the Italian ambassador in Beijing - has explained, “and it is the further confirmation of the great attention payed by all the Italian Institutions to support the return of Italian people to China. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Di Maio and Wang Yi, have welcomed the news with satisfaction during their recent meeting. We are working together with the Chamber of Commerce in order to organize a further flight which, hopefully, might be open to all the compatriots regularly resident in the People’s Republic of China and still stuck outside China”.
On the eve of the operation, Di Maio and Wang Yi had a call. According to a very-short release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the meeting the “relaunch of the economic partnership”, “the export of agri-food products”, “the COVID-19 battle”, the global cooperation to find a vaccine” and “the digital transformation” have been mentioned.
