July 22, 2020

Abstract : The first café-robot to be installed in China is Italian, but it speaks Chinese. It has been opened by Massimo Zanetti Beverage Group, which has launched Robocup Café in collaboration with Robocup China.

MILAN, July 20 (Class Editori) - The first café-robot to be installed in China is Italian, but it speaks Chinese. It has been opened by Massimo Zanetti Beverage Group, which has launched Robocup Café in collaboration with Robocup China. It is a 24-hour self-service coffee bar completely robotized, located in Shenzhen, the hub of informatic services and artificial intelligence of the country.

Customers can order their favorite coffee, the Italian-style one, from the robot, through a touchscreen menu or from their own smartphones, through an app.

The innovative coffee bar is an historic achievement for Segafredo Zanetti, who has acted faster than his direct competitors, Illy and Lavazza, and managed to conquer shares on the rich and fast-growing Chinese market.

Segafredo is indeed the first Italian brand which is able to offer coffee through a completely automated system, which also provides for a cup closing system inside a protected environment, in order to guarantee a high safety standard. Digital payment systems and QR codes ensure that the economic transaction takes place in the quickest way possible.

The group led by Massimo Zanetti is putting pressure on China and the Far East countries, where it closed the first quarter of this year with an increase in sale rates by 17 percent, the highest worldwide, even though it experienced a light fall on values by -4 percent, namely a total amount of 22 million euros, and by 10 percent on the quarterly turnover, which is on the increase compared to 2019.

Last march, the group from Treviso had announced the opening of its first coffee bar in Ulan Bator, the capital and main city of Mongolia. Segafredo has carried out the project in partnership with the local partner GT Beans. The new coffee bar is located in Nomin superstore, inside one of the most recent residential areas of the city.

Ulan Bator is the main industrial centre of Mongolia and, in the last decades, it has been affected by a fast urbanization and an increase in population, by becoming a very dynamic centre.

The coffee bar has become a meeting point, in particular for many young people, always increasingly interested in the Italian culture. The most requested drinks are espresso coffee, caffelatte, cappuccino besides cold tea and slush. In addition, the menu offers a wide choice of panini and bakery.

At the beginning of this year, another coffee bar has also been opened at Xiamen Airport, in the province of Fujian- on the western side of Taiwan Strait. Xiamen is a special economic zone, which attracts investments from Taiwan and Hong Kong, with a very developed industrial centre.

"In China, the increasing consumption of coffee provides huge possibilities of development to Segafredo Zanetti", as some sources of the group have explained.

Massimo Zanetti Beverage group is among the global leaders in production, processing and distribution of roasted coffee and it is active in 110 countries. The group manages supply activities until consumption by working in about 20 active factories in Europe, Asia and America as well as through an international network of about 400 coffee bars in 50 countries. Moreover, the group produces and sell professional coffee machines "La San Marco".
