BEIJING, July 8 (Xinhua) -- East China's Jiangxi province put 13,301 5G base stations into operation in the first half of this year, according to the Department of Industry and Information Technology of the province.
A total of 16186 5G base stations have been opened in the province as of the end of June.
Jiangxi has been emphasizing 5G development. This year, it intends to build 20,000 5G base stations, introduce a batch of 5G enterprises, establish three to five 5G industrial bases, and generate 40 billion yuan of income from major 5G businesses, according to the province's work plan for 5G development in 2020.
To mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jiangxi has implemented supportive measures such as providing electricity subsidy to support construction of 5G networks. It has also promoted integrated application of 5G plus industrial Internet, virtual reality, transportation, healthcare, and education to fuel growth of local digital economy.
