BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese authorities have called for effective efforts in eliminating excess capacity in critical areas of coal, coal power and steel, according to a recent circular jointly issued by the authorities, reported Xinhua-run cnstock.com Monday.
The circular proposes to eliminate the outdated production capacity of the coal industry that does not meet the requirements for safety and environmental protection and does not conform to industrial policies, and strives to cultivate and develop high-quality production capacity in the industry.
The coal power industry should focus on eliminating outdated coal-fired power plants while promoting ultra-low emissions and energy-saving transformation of coal-power plants to improve the efficiency of enterprises engaged with the industry, said the circular.
The circular discloses that the scale of coal power installation across China is expected to be controlled within 1.1 billion kilowatts by the end of 2020.
In terms of streamlining the steel industry's production capacity, enterprises will be prohibited from adding new steel smelting capacity, while mergers and restructuring of iron and steel enterprises should be promoted further.
