Shanghai's marine economic output exceeds one trillion yuan in 2019

Abstract : Shanghai's marine economy continued to grow steadily in 2019, with its gross marine production increasing from 746.3 billion yuan in 2016 to 1,037.2 billion yuan in 2019, according to Shanghai Municipal Oceanic Bureau.

BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai's marine economy continued to grow steadily in 2019, with its output increasing from 746.3 billion yuan in 2016 to 1,037.2 billion yuan in 2019, according to Shanghai Municipal Oceanic Bureau.

In 2019, Shanghai's marine output accounted for 11.6 percent and 27.2 percent of the total national marine output and the city's total GDP, respectively.

Taking modern service and advanced manufacturing industries including marine transportation, marine ships and high-end equipment manufacturing, marine tourism as leading industries, with emerging industries such as marine drugs and biological products, marine renewable energy utilization as growth drivers, Shanghai has formed a modern marine industrial system.

Meanwhile, the marine industry layout of Shanghai was gradually established, the development of marine industries in Lingang and Changxing island was remarkable.
