A chair that can be folded up to take away, a custom-made sports shoe for cycling made by a 3D printer or an app for dog lovers: 10 creative business ideas from the western German states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland as well as the German-speaking Community of East Belgium have now been honored in the cross-national competition Kreativsonar. The winners can now jointly take advantage of a coaching program worth a total of 5,000 euros, the Saarland Ministry of Economics announced on Monday.
This was the fifth time that the Kreativsonar was held. Originally conceived as a two-state competition, this year was the first time that a guest region, East Belgium, was a partner in the competition. The official award ceremony which was due to be held in the East Side Fab Saarbrücken had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis.
"The creative industry is a source of ideas and an engine of innovation in our economy that serves as a great example," said Saarland's Minister of Economic Affairs Anke Rehlinger, a member of the center-left Social Democrats (SPD). The sector, with its many freelancers and solo self-employed, is suffering particularly from the coronavirus crisis, she said: "This makes it all the more important that we make it more visible and support it in networking in the wider region."
Her Rhineland-Palatinate counterpart Volker Wissing, a member of the pro-business Free Democrats (FDP), said: "Every good idea ensures that our economy develops dynamically. This is all the more important in the current situation."
