MILAN, May 8 (Class Editori) - A wind farm of 48 MW addressed to an annual electric production of about 198 GWh and an overall CO2 saving equal to 172,000 tons per year. These are the figures of the new wind farm for the commercial production of electric energy based in Badamska, Aktobe region, in the North-western part of Kazakhstan; it has been established by Eni through its local subsidiary ArmWind LLP, specialized in renewable energy.
The project actualizes the Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2017 with the Kazakh Ministry of Energy on the renewable energies production in Kazakhstan.
The wind park of Badamsha has been the first investment in the wind sector by Eni on the large scale, and has represented the first step in order to strengthen the company's presence in the renewable energy sector of the country; indeed, it is one of the most strategic sectors in Central Asia along the Belt and Road Initiative routes which link Europe and the Far East. Moreover, through Kazakhstan passes the railway which links Central China with Duisburg, Germany.
Last year, after the auctions managed by Kazakh companies, Eni won a further project for a wind farm of 48 MW, namely the expansion phase of the Badamsha Project, which should be completed within the following year, as well as a photovoltaic project in the Turkestan region based in the Northern part of the country.
This is particularly important for Eni, which is trying to enter into the production of the most promising renewable energy of the future, the photovoltaic one, with its own technology based on cells made up of super thin films, by exploiting the characteristics of polymeric photoactive materials, the so-called organic photovoltaic, which can beplaced almost everywhere and without complex structures.
The first Eni photovoltaic plant has been created in Tunisia at the service of an oil productive plant. The one in Turkestan may be an absolute innovation.
"These initiatives are following the line of Eni strategy, which combines economic and environmental sustainability by allowing the company to be leader in the market, providing energy decarbonised products and actively contributing to the energy transition process. Eni strategy, in the renewable energies sector, is focusing on reaching a balanced and diversified portfolio with more than 3 GW of wind and solar energy installed by 2023 and until 5 GW within 2025", as a spokesman of the company has underlined.
Eni has been active in Kazakhstan since 1992 and it is currently co-operator of the Karachaganak deposit and equity partner in different projects around the northern Caspian Sea, including the major deposit of Kashagan. Moreover, Eni is co-operator in the Abay and Isatay exploration blocks together with the KMG state company. In the country, the current production amounts at 180,000 barrels of oil per day.
