SYDNEY, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- A grand symphonic epic concert and a photo exhibition were held at Sydney Town Hall on Saturday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War.
The event, titled "Ode to Peace and the Future," was attended by over 2,000 people from China, Australia and other countries.
Upon entering the Sydney Town Hall, attendees were greeted by 80 historical photographs from World War II, capturing scenes of people around the world bravely resisting fascist aggression.
Many guests stopped to view those photos carefully and take pictures.
At the concert, the Huaxing Arts Group Australia joined hands with Australian artists to present performances featuring symphony, chorus, solo performances, and poetry recitals, which struck a deep chord with the audience.
Chinese Consul General in Sydney Wang Yu said in his speech that the people of China and Australia stood united against fascism, supporting each other, and together made important contributions to the final victory of the world's anti-fascist war.
All countries must work together to safeguard international fairness and justice, and to uphold the outcomes of the victory of World Anti-Fascist War and the post-war international order, he said.
Mark Buttigieg, a member of the Legislative Council of New South Wales (NSW), representing the state's premier, attended and addressed the event.
The Chinese people made a massive contribution in World War II, he said, emphasizing that people must be vigilant all the time and constantly promote the cause of peace.
The event was hosted by the Huaxing Arts Group Australia and co-organized by the Chinese Consulate-General in Sydney, the Maritime Union of Australia, and NSW South Coast Labor Council.
