BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Online drug purchase has quickened the development of China's internet economy while bringing safety and convenience to patients amid the COVID-19 epidemic, reported cctv.com Friday.
Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the online drug purchase and delivery platforms in China have seen substantial increase in registered users and orders, with user visits of some platforms even reaching 50 times of the usual level.
During the May Day holiday, a fast-delivery platform under China's e-commerce giant Meituan Dianping saw the turnover of pharmaceutical products increase by 92.9 percent from 2019.
Besides, 80 percent of the users that ordered drugs during the holiday on a drug delivery platform under JD.com, another Chinese e-commerce giant, were new users.
Data from JD pharmacy, an e-commerce platform under JD.com, showed that most of the online drug purchasers were in their 35s to 45s, and came from south China's Guangdong Province followed by Beijing, Jiangsu, Shanghai and Shandong.
However, drugs purchased online are mainly over-the-counter drugs and anti-epidemic products.
In order to meet patients' demands for prescription drugs, hospital APP came in to being through which consultation, prescription, dispensing and drug delivery can be all done online.
Besides, multiple regions in China have incorporated the expenses incurred by internet hospital diagnosis and treatment services into medical insurance during the battle against the epidemic. (Edited by Gu Shanshan with Xinhua Silk Road, gushanshan.1987@163.com)
