BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese automaker SAIC Motor Corporation held the “cloud opening ceremony” for the first flagship store of its MG model in Paris on Thursday. The store has met with more than 270 French media and consumers via online video.
Meanwhile, the company officially unveiled its first global pure electric SUV “MG EZS” in France.
France plans to gradually “unlock” the city from next week as the COVID-19 pandemic slows down. Under such a backdrop, the flagship store will start operation on the premise of meeting the epidemic prevention requirements.
The flagship store is located near the Galeries Lafayette department store in Paris. It is divided into several areas including product experience section, customer reception, delivery, after-sales service, aiming to provide consumers with full-cycle service.
The head of the SAIC Motor's European business said that during the outbreak of COVID-19 in Europe, the automaker has actively joined in the local “anti-COVID-19 battle,” donating medical supplies and providing free automotive products and travel services, and it thus has been accepted by local residents.
While fighting COVID-19, SAIC's overseas business maintained a steady growth at the start of 2020. Its retail sales exceeded 45,000 in the first two months of the year, up 20 percent year on year. Meanwhile, overseas retail sales surpassed 25,000 units, surging 150 percent year on year, noted Yu De, general manager of the international business department of SAIC Motor.
By far, SAIC Motor has established three overseas innovation research and development (R&D) centers including one in Britain, three whole-vehicle manufacturing bases respectively in Thailand, Indonesia and India, and 93 parts manufacturing bases overseas.
