HANGZHOU, May 7 (Xinhua) -- BEST Inc. (NYSE: BEST), a leading integrated smart supply chain solutions and logistics services provider in China, released its 2019 environmental, social and governance (ESG) report on May 7.

The report showed the company's latest ESG initiatives, its ESG performance in 2019, as well as the recent global relief efforts amid the COVID-19 outbreak .

“We believe that our success is based on our ability to positively impact our community as we all seek to improve the world around us. In 2019, we continued to push forward with our ESG goals, including allocating resources and making investments in areas that help us conduct business in a sustainable, socially responsible and ethical way,” said Johnny Chou, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BEST.

At present, BEST provided its logistics services for tens of millions of users and meanwhile, offered smart supply chain services for hundreds of enterprises.

The company has taken active steps to promote information security, service quality and operational efficiency in a bid to provide customers with smart and safe services.

According to the report, BEST participated in 20 public welfare activities last year and built over 20,000 rural delivery service stations to revitalize rural economies. In 2019, the company launched the “Agricultural Excellence” project. So far BEST has promoted over 40 agricultural products from more than 30 impoverished counties in China and helped local farmers sell more than 4.3 million kilograms of fresh produce, generating over 35 million yuan of revenue.

In the face of the sudden COVID-19 outbreak, BEST responded quickly and remained committed to helping employees, customers, and communities during this unusual situation. It set up an internal response team and a "green channel" to ensure the shipping of medical and relief supplies such as masks and disinfectants in China and around the world. As of March 11, BEST has delivered over 170,000 items of medical and relief supplies across China, sponsored shipments of epidemic relief materials to France, Vietnam and Malaysia, and distributed 400,000 masks to overseas subsidiaries.

Furthermore, BEST has actively explored sustainable ways to drive growth for the entire supply chain and logistics industry through the promotion of green express packaging and low-carbon delivery. In 2019, BEST reduced paper use by over 3,390 tonnes through the one-copy digital waybill initiative, saved 105 tonnes of plastic by using over 35 million eco-friendly satchels and 4.3 million liters of fuel, as well as reduced 15,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission through the network integration of the express and freight business.

In the future, Best will continue its efforts to explore the field of social responsibility, identify and invest in more sustainable growth channels and develop a smarter, greener supply chain and logistics platform in China and beyond.(Edited by Yang Yifan with Xinhua Silk Road, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
