InfoQuest (May 7, 2020) -- Deputy Prime Minister Weerasak Wangsuphakijkosol said his ministry will support researchers and innovators who register with the Department of Intellectual Property to apply for intellectual property protection of innovations created as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. After the outbreak, more than 50 patents and petty patents for innovations in infection prevention and disinfection have been filed.
"During the current outbreak, the Ministry of Commerce will encourage Thais to register for intellectual property protection. Relevant personnel can apply for this service through the online systems of the Department of Intellectual Property, such as e-filing, e-payment, etc., which will provide convenience for them to complete registration quickly and efficiently under the current situation. In addition to protecting the rights of intellectual property owners, a patent registration would encourage the creation and development of new innovations that help address social problems, " Mr. Weerasak said.
The public have lodged the requests in four categories of creations, They are 26 requests for equipment to stop transmission of the virus, such as face masks and face shields; 18 requests for disinfectant machines or apparatus including sterilizers and walk-in disinfectant chambers; four requests for sanitizer substances, preparations and gels; and three for inventions that help prevent infections such as food service robots in hospitals.
