BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhua) – East China's Jiangsu Province had reported a total of 340 China-Europe freight trains in the first quarter of the year, up 59.3 percent year on year, according to the local transport department.

CCTV News Tuesday reported that during the period, 262 freight trains were sent from Jiangsu to cities in Europe and Asia, surging 66.2 percent year on year, while 78 freight tains carried goods from Europe and Asia to the province, increasing 39.6 percent year on year.

Lianyungang, a coastal main port city in Jiangsu, had run 188 freight trains to Europe and Asia in the first quarter, up 68.8 percent year on year, accounting for 55.3 percent of the province’s total.

Meanwhile, Lianyungang is also playing an essential role in international goods transfer and railway-sea intermodal transport, injecting impetus for promoting foreign trade in Jiangsu.

The city of Suzhou, the economic heartland of Jiangsu, witnessed departure of more than one freign train to Europe on average in March after a drastic decrease in the first two months.

Thanks to the efforts taken by local authorities, freight trains in the cities such as Xuzhou and Nanjing have also resumed orderly operation.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, various parts of Jiangsu have ensured the regular shipment of import and export containers based on strict prevention and control measures. (Edited by Jiang Feifan with Xinhua Silk Road, 346129473@qq.com)
