BEIJING, April 30 (Xinhua) -- As a large number of enterprises have worked around the clock after resuming production amid the COVID-19 epidemic, China's nighttime economy is recovering soon, reported Economic Information Daily Thursday.
"The night light index can reflect the Chinese economy to some extent," said Chen Dong with the Department of Big Data Development of the State Information Center, a public institution directly affiliated to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China's top economic planner.
Chen's department has calculated the average regional brightness at night in China from January 2 to April 2 this year based on the night light index obtained by processing satellite images.
The result showed that the average regional brightness over the three months declined first and then gradually increased, which is highly consistent with the work and production resumption process in the country amid the epidemic.
"In early April, China's night light brightness was nearly 200 percent higher than that in early February!" said Chen.
Streamlined government services have also driven the recovery of the nighttime economy.
Guangdong Haoshun Odis Technology Company Limited is a high-tech Chinese firm headquartered in south China's Guangdong Province. It only takes the company seven hours to complete the registration for ethanol disinfectant products.
Since then, the company has kept producing products day and night, with a production capacity 20 percent higher than normal. It exports more than ten containers every day which is more than doubled from the previous figure, and its sales in February and March rose by 20 percent year on year.
Consumption has contributed more to the nighttime economy, as some tourist attractions and restaurants have reopened at night, noted Yang Daoling, director of big data analysis with the Department of Big Data Development of the State Information Center.
