ZHENGHOU, April 22 (Xinhua) -- The construction of the international air cargo hub in Henan Province's capital Zhengzhou took a new step again as the Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport north cargo zone and China Post's Zhengzhou air mail processing center have started, said a report on dahe.cn.
The north cargo zone is an important part of the construction of Xinzheng airport, mainly facilitating the development of large aviation logistics enterprises in Zhengzhou to meet their needs of setting up regional distribution center.
The start of the construction also means the third phase project of the airport officially begins. After the completion of the north cargo zone, the airport's freight infrastructure will be effectively improved and it's expected to attract more large domestic and foreign aviation logistics enterprises.
The north cargo zone is designed to have an annual cargo and postal handling capacity of 600,000 tons, and with a total investment of 4.6 billion yuan and a construction period of two years.
Zhengzhou air mail processing center, as an important supporting facility in the north cargo zone, is the core project of the fourth largest international mail distribution port after Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
Its functions will include domestic standard express mail processing, international mail processing, bonded storage center, commercial express supervision center and cross-border e-commerce storage.
The total planning area of the project is 90,000 square meters, with a total investment of 344 million yuan. The initial construction area is 60,000 square meters, with a total investment of about 280 million yuan.
After the completion of the air mail processing center, the average daily mail handling capacity can reach 686,000 pieces.
