BEIJING, April 9 (Xinhua) -- E-coupons handed out by Chinese cities have greatly spurred up China's consumption during the three-day tomb-sweeping holiday, and benefit numerous small-, micro- and medium-sized businesses in particular, reported National Business Daily (NBD) Tuesday.
During the holiday, driven by e-coupons, many businesses welcomed a soaring number of customers. Supermarkets in Jiaxing of east China's Zhejiang Province, even saw consumers line up to recharge member cards with coupons.
Official data showed that as of 4 p.m. on April 6, the e-coupons issued by Hangzhou, capital city of Zhejiang, had boosted consumption by 2.226 billion yuan. The first batch of e-coupons redeemed government subsidies of 145 million yuan which drove consumption by 1.805 billion yuan.
By 1 p.m. on April 6, the e-coupons released by Zhengzhou, capital city of central China's Henan Province, had redeemed government subsidies of 17.01 million yuan, boosting consumption by 201 million yuan.
Currently, more than ten million offline businesses have benefited from e-coupons, and 90-odd percent of the beneficiaries are small-, micro- and medium-sized businesses, said the report quoting data from Alipay.
Zhang Zelin, owner of a snack bar offering Chinese hamburger Rougamo in Hangzhou, told NBD that since the launch of the e-coupon campaign, the turnover of his bar has increased by 700 yuan to 1,000 yuan a day as compared with that in the early days of his business resumption.
It's learned that currently more than 30 provinces, municipalities and administrative regions in China have issued e-coupons with total value exceeding 5.6 billion yuan, so as to revitalize consumer confidence and boost work and production resumption.
