China to unveil 2021-2035 plan for NEV industry development soon

April 09, 2020

Abstract : China will release the plan for development of new energy vehicle (NEV) industry in the period from 2021 to 2035 soon, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Wednesday.

BEIJING, April 9 (Xinhua) -- China will release the plan for development of new energy vehicle (NEV) industry in the period from 2021 to 2035 soon, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Wednesday.

The authorities will improve the policy support to stabilize and expand the NEV consumption and promote the sustainable and healthy development of the industry, said Xin Guobin, vice minister of the MIIT.

The market competitiveness of the NEVs will be significantly improved and major breakthroughs will be made in key technologies such as power batteries, drive motors, and on-board operating systems by 2025. Sales of NEVs will account for about 25 percent of the country's new car sales by then, according to the draft of the plan.

In 2019, China's production and sales of NEVs exceeded 1.2 million units, according to Miao Wei, minister of MIIT at an electric vehicle forum in Beijing in January. (Edited by Hu Pingchao with Xinhua Silk Road, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
