BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- South China's island province of Hainan on Monday unveiled a plan to develop itself into a national sports tourism demonstration zone from 2020 to 2025.
The province will take two steps to put the plan in place. From 2020 to 2022, the province will initially establish a sports tourism management system with Hainan characteristics, launch the sports tourism standards, and gradually expand the scale of the sports tourism industry.
From 2023 to 2025, it will complete the construction of the national sports tourism demonstration zone, create two to three sports tourism industry clusters, and significantly increase the role of the sports tourism in the international tourism consumption.
The province will also actively support and cultivate a group of privately-owned sports tourism enterprises with core competitiveness, encourage large local sports tourism enterprises to go public, carry out transnational operations, overseas mergers and acquisitions, and expand product exports and service trade.
Meanwhile, Hainan will introduce multinational sports companies with international influence, and encourage them to set up corporate headquarters here, according to the plan. (Edited by Hu Pingchao with Xinhua Silk Road, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
