InfoQuest (April 01, 2020) - Industry Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit revealed that on March 17, 2020, the cabinet approved a 65 million baht budget of the central government for the Ministry of Industry, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), and private sector to cooperate in producing 10 million masks and handling out to people in and around Bangkok. Previously, the Ministry of Interior has been entrusted to produce 50 million masks for local people. The new decision of the cabinet aims to make medical masks more available and prevent the spread of Covid-19. The Ministry of Industry will handle out the first 1 million cloth masks to people prior to April 11.
Based on the house registration certificates of 3.05 million households in the Department of Provincial Administration, masks will be mailed via postal services. Each people in house registration certificate will receive a mask, and a total of 5.6 million masks will be sent out. First, masks will be mailed to Pom Prap Sattru Phai district and Samphanthawong district, where the postal code is 10100. Then all the 50 districts under the jurisdiction of Bangkok will receive masks. The last district will receive masks no later than early May.
The rest 4.4 million masks will be handled out to people around Bangkok and those in other risky regions, such as Warm Buri Province, Samut Prakan Province, southern provinces and border provinces; and people working in risky environment, such as those working in public transport, rail transit, subway stations, postman, and police. The distribution of masks will be arranged by the Cloth Mask Production Project Supervision Committee of the Ministry of Industry, to make medical masks more available and prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The use of postal services means to make it easier for people to receive masks, and ensure all households registering houses in Bangkok can receive masks. If postal parcels get lost and people cannot receive masks, they can check the status of parcels at the website co-founded by Krung Thai Bank (KTB).
