HANGZHOU, March 2 (Xinhua) – The total volume of freight carried by the Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe trains has expanded remarkably since the beginning of this year, despite the COVID-19 epidemic outbreak.
From Jan. 1 to Feb. 24, a total of 4,198 standard containers had been transported by the Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe freight trains, up 64 percent compared with the same period last year, which ensures the stable transportation of import and export goods as well as critical materials of people's livelihood, official data showed.
The Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe freight train, as one of the China-Europe freight trains, runs between Madrid, the capital of Spain and the Chinese city of Yiwu, the world's leading small commodities market in Zhejiang Province, east China.
The train service which was put off for the epidemic outbreak was resumed in mid-Febuary, as a train loaded with 86 standard containers departed from Xiwu to Minsk, Belarus on Feburary 10 and three days latter, another train loaded with 82 standard containers left the city of Jinhua in Zhejiang to Kyrgyzstan.
As of February 24, the sea-rail intermodal freight trains connecting Yiwu and Ningbo Zhoushan Port, China's busiest port, had also returned to regular operation, giving full play to the advantages of stable sea-rail intermodal transport.
To ensure the smooth operation of the train amid the epidemic, local customs and some other relevant departments made joint efforts to solve the difficulties in the process of customs clearance and help enterprises resume production.
