MILAN, Feb. 28 (Class Editori) -- Huawei has chosen France to establish its first production plant of radio receiving for 4G and 5G in Europe. An investment of 200 million euros which, according to the projections of the tech giant of Shenzhen, will employ 500 people, as Liang Hua, the Chairman of Huawei Technologies has explained during a press conference.
The Shenzhen's group has not disclosed where the plant will be established yet. The goal is to produce apparels amounting at a countervalue of almost 1 billion euros per year, in particular radio receiving. "We have created a work group which will select the site. We are negotiating with both local authorities and the government and we have explained the general line of our needs", the top manager has declared.
The factory will supply apparels for the whole European market and not only for France. "We own activities all over the world and therefore we need a global industrial approach", Liang has explained. No comments have been released by the Elysée yet.
According to observers, the proposal by the Chinese group would be a way to secure the acceptance by the French government in a time in which the Chinese group is the target of the American administration of Donald Trump, which is attempting to ban the 5G networks development in Europe and in the countries allied with Washington. European capitals are divided. The French operator Orange is, at the moment, aiming at European Huawei competitors, namely Nokia and Ericsson.
Other smaller operators such as Bouygues Telecom and SFR, which are already working with the Chinese company, have not communicated their decision yet. French people are ensuring that there would not be restrictions over competition, however they are asking for network supply controls, in order to check any cyber security risks. Despite its strict rules, Germany has not cut out the Chinese colossal.
In Italy, the debate is open too. The Parliamentary Committee for the Republic Security has encouraged the government to consider the possibility to cut out the Chinese multinational companies, Huawei and ZTE, from the Italian 5G network implementation.
However, Huawei is motivating the desire to open a factory in France with the research and capacity levels reached by the country. The plant will be supplied with a demonstration centre, which will show how the production of the base wireless stations, the software upload and the test process are taking place. The centre will be open to enterprises and governments in order to demonstrate the Huawei openness in respect of the European request of digital sovereignty.
