Chinese star-rated hotels generate 93.8 billion yuan in first half of 2019

Abstract : Chinese star-rated hotels brought in total revenue of more than 93.8 billion yuan (13.3 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half of 2019, according to a report released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese star-rated hotels brought in total revenue of more than 93.8 billion yuan (13.3 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half of 2019, according to a report released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Among the earnings, room sales totaled 42.7 billion yuan while food and beverage incomes constituted 38.2 billion yuan, accounting for 45.5 percent and 40.7 percent of the total revenue, respectively.

According to the report, the number of star-rated hotels in China hit 10,284, including 846 five-star hotels, as of June 30, 2019.

In the first six months of the year, the average room rate of all star-rated hotels was nearly 354.6 yuan per room night, up 2.45 percent year on year, it said.

Nine provincial-level areas reported a higher average room rate than the national average, said the report, adding that Shanghai took the top spot with an average of 742 yuan a night per room, followed by Beijing, Hainan, Guangdong and Tianjin.
