Land handover of rail linking three key Thai airports on track

October 18, 2019

Abstract : The land delivery plan for the high-speed railway project linking three airports (Don Mueang airport, Suvarnabhumi airport and U-Tapao airport) has been submitted to the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Policy Committee meeting by the executive subcommittee.

InfoQuest, (October 16, 2019) -- The land delivery plan for the high-speed railway project linking three airports (Don Mueang airport, Suvarnabhumi airport and U-Tapao airport) has been submitted to the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Policy Committee meeting by the executive subcommittee chaired by the finance minister, according to Mr. Kanit Sangsubhan, director-general of the EEC Office.

The plan is divided into three sections, with land for the first 28-kilometer section -- the Airport Rail Link connecting Phayathai station to Suvarnabhumi -- now ready to be handed over immediately after the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) signs the contract.

Delivery of land for the second section -- a 170-kilometer stretch from Suvarnabhumi to U-Tapao -- is scheduled to proceed within 15 months, extendable to a maximum 24 months, of the contract signing.

Land for the final section of 22 kilometers from Don Mueang to Phayathai is scheduled for handover within 27 months, extendable to 48 months, of the contract signing.

If the land delivery proceeds as planned, the high-speed railway linking three airports, will be put into operation as soon as late 2023 or early 2024. Phayathai-Don Mueang section is expected to open to the public between 2024 and 2025 due to a large number of public facilities that need to be dismantled and adjusted.

In addition, the meeting also set up a sub-committee to speed up the land delivery and appointed the permanent secretary-general of the Ministry of Transport as its chairman to expedite the work.
