According to a new consumer study, there are particularly strong reservations about paying by mobile phone in Germany. According to the survey of 2,500 residents of 10 European countries, at the end of last year only 5 percent of German consumers used their smartphone for making payments, the financial experts at PwC Strategy write in the study published in Munich on Tuesday. That was the lowest figure in the survey, which saw the Swedes coming in top with 33 percent.
In addition, 58 percent of German consumers saw no reason why mobile payments should become attractive to them in the future. The proportion of sceptics was thus higher than in any other participating country.
According to the study, one of consumers' main concerns is the transfer of their personal data to financial service providers in connection with mobile payments. PwC also surveyed around 60 managers in the financial sector - who hugely overestimated the willingness of European consumers to disclose personal data.
