InfoQuest (September 24, 2019) -- Ms. Sorada Lertharpachit, deputy director general of the Department of Business Development of the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), released the data of business registration in August 2019: 5,973 companies got registered nationwide, dropping by 8 percent,486 compared with the 6,459 in July 2019, and 7 percent or 473 compared with the 6,446 in August 2018.
In terms of the number of new enterprises, construction took the first place with 547 new entrants, accounting for 9 percent. The second was real estate with 344, accounting for 6 percent. The third was catering with 172, accounting for 3 percent. The combined commercial capital of all newly registered enterprises in August 2019 was 17.172 billion baht, a decrease of 5.694 billion baht or 25 percent compared with last month's 22.866 billion baht, and a decrease of 6.061 billion baht or 26 percent compared with last August's 23.233 billion baht.
At the same time, 1,755 enterprises applied to deregister in August 2019, an increase of 161 or 10 percent compared with last month's 1,594, and a decrease of 15 or 1 percent compared with the 1,740 in August 2018. In terms of the number of deregistration applicants, construction topped other industries with 155, accounting for 9 percent; the second was 97 of real estate, accounting for 6 percent; the third was 58 of catering industry, accounting for 3 percent.
As of the end of August 2019, a total of 743,955 enterprises were in operation nationwide, with a combined capital of 17.89 trillion baht. Among them, 184,937 were limited partnerships/general partnerships, accounting for 24.86 percent; 557,767 were limited companies, accounting for 74.97 percent; 1,251 were listed companies, accounting for 0.17 percent.
When asked about the trend of newly registered companies, Ms. Sorada expected an increase in September than in August, which means that the total number of newly registered companies in the third quarter of 2019 will be close to that in the third quarter last year; and the number of newly registered companies in the fourth quarter is estimated to decrease seasonally.
According to relevant data on investments made in accordance with the provisions of the Thailand Foreign Business Act, in August 2019, a total of 49 foreign investments were approved, including 13 business license approvals and 36 business scope certificate approvals, involving a total investment of 18.87 billion baht. In terms of investment amount, Japan topped the list with 16 investments worth over 10.539 billion baht, followed by Germany, with six investments worth over 54 million baht, and Singapore, with five investments worth 185 million baht.
