InfoQuest (September 23, 2019) -- Mr. Uttama Savanayana, finance minister of Thailand, revealed the progress of the registration of the "food, shopping, and consumption" program, which comes with discounts.
According to the latest report of Krung Thai Bank (KTB), as of 13:00 today, a total of 880,000 people have registered. Today is the first day of registration. It is estimated that at about 14:00 (less than one hour after the program started), 1 million people will get registered, meeting the previously set target: 1 million people get registered each day, and 10 million people in total.
The finance minister stressed there would be no increase in the number of people allowed to register each day, as 1 million a day would be an appropriate number.
"The registration was opened last night (12:00 a.m.). Because so many people were registering at the same time, the system had a little bit of a lag. But KTB has resolved the problem. I must admit that the number of people interested in the program has exceeded our expectation," said Mr. Uttama.
Besides, the Fiscal Policy Office is considering extending the time for merchants to get registered. At this point, 150,000 merchants have registered. The Fiscal Policy Office is considering the possibility of extending the deadline from September 20 to October 15.
"The 'food, shopping, and consumption' program will not be a failure, since so many people are interested, with 50,000 people getting registered each second," said Mr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, director general of the Revenue Department and chairman of board of KTB.
"I am sure that registration will be finished as scheduled, and the system will not be overloaded," said Mr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas.
He stressed that the tax information of merchants and consumers participating in the program will not be reviewed, and the Revenue Department will not use participants’ registration information to review their tax affairs, since the Revenue Department has enough information in its system. So there should be no worry about that. But all citizens have the duty to pay tax according to law.
