InfoQuest (September 19, 2019) -- Mr. Takorn Tantasith, secretary-general of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), revealed that NBTC and the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media of Russia co-hosted an international forum "Forum on Digital Cooperation", aiming to exchange ideas and create business opportunity for the development of radio, television and telecommunications.
On May 30, 2017, the two agencies signed a joint declaration, seeking to pursue cooperation and better development in three key areas: 1. International Mobile Roaming (IMR): they will intensify bilateral cooperation and boost business negotiation, so as to cut roaming rate and reduce service cost between the two countries. 2. Digital broadcasting television: they will share information on their guidance in developing digital television and the contents of television broadcasting. 3. Security of telecommunication usage: they will share relevant knowledge and experience in the security of telecommunication usage.
The forum included meetings of telecommunications, radio, television, and education. Major issues included: in terms of telecommunications, the two sides discussed how to use mobile phone to create added value and offer convenient services for consumers; opportunities and challenges in business operation; sharing experience and launching 5G plan, network security policies and measures against internet threat.
In broadcasting and television, the topic on the transition to digital terrestrial television was discussed. The two sides pledged to strengthen cooperation to promote the development of the industry and adopt such business models as spreading contents via new media. Meanwhile, as more and more consumers are turning to digital platforms, effective data management and changes in business models are needed to help them adapt to digital life. In addition, attention should be payed to the over-the-top (OTT) media service, and the opportunities and challenges related to this market should be discussed, so as to create sustainable income.
In the aspect of education, technologies in the radio, television and telecommunications sectors were discussed, which emphasized the need to establish cooperation in promoting educational development between Thailand and Russia in order to adapt to technological changes, and develop technologies to drive the economic development in the two countries.
