InfoQuest, (September 22, 2019) -- Thailand's trade data for August 2019 were released by the Trade Policy and Strategy Office of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand. The total export volume of Thailand was 21.9149 billion U.S. dollars, shrinking by 4.0 percent, compared with an increase of 4.28 percent in July. The exports in August are expected to contract by 1.8 percent to 2.3 percent.
The main reasons for the negative export growth again in August were the global economic slowdown, the impact of the trade war and the drop in oil prices.
In August, the total import volume was 19.8624 billion U.S. dollars, shrinking by 14.62 percent, and the trade surplus was 2.0526 billion U.S. dollars.
In the first eight months of 2019 (January-August), the total export volume was 166.0906 billion U.S. dollars, shrinking by 2.19 percent, the total import volume was 159.984.4 billion U.S. dollars, shrinking by 3.61percent, and the trade surplus was 6.106 billion U.S. dollars.
