The protagonists: an exhibition and a fashion show of young talents from Suzhou, known throughout the Asian continent as the city of silk. The exhibition will be dedicated to the authentic imperial silks of the Qing Dynasty culture, in addition to the embroideries and jewels of the time handcrafted by the students and teachers of the institute – founded in 1922 as the first academy of fine arts – coordinated by the artist and designer Ji Ping Sheng. The event, ahead of the celebrations for the 100 years of Suzhou's cooperation with Italy in 2020 and for which several projects are already underway, therefore aims at supporting future generations in fashion, strengthening the link between tradition and innovation. Moreover, the event is itinerant: after Milan it will travel to Paris. Suzhou silk is still today a world excellence, so much so that the Government protects all the looms workshops. Francesco Fiordelli, the main Italian expert in the Chinese fashion sector through the China National Garment Association underlined how important is the role of China in the business, especially in the fashion area, with fresh new ideas from young people. The institute, of over 300 thousand square meters, integrates nature, tradition and sustainability, boasting 400 teachers and over 50 specialization courses for artists, designers, artisans and embroidery masters.
