InfoQuest, (Sept. 03, 2019) -- The Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) and the Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Academic Cooperation and Information Exchange. This move aims to apply it to monthly agricultural price forecasts and to release information via the Golden Land website and BAAC A-Mobile application.
Ms. Jariya Sutthichaiya, secretary general of the OAE, said that the memorandum of understanding will push for more comprehensive and efficient cooperation in academic field. In particular, in tracking and estimating GDP data of the agricultural sector, it will help make the most of information technology in collecting data and provide the public with other information beneficial to agricultural production activities.
Nowadays, the farmers engaged in farming are getting older, while the younger generation is not very interested in farming. Therefore, the application of modern technology and the provision of accurate information are crucial to solve the problem of the aging of the agricultural labor force in the future. As an official academic institution responsible for policy making, research, evaluation and dissemination of agricultural information, the OAE is committed to creating a stable production and living environment for farmers, and meeting their needs and improving their quality of life through the use of academic knowledge and modern technology. In addition, the OAE will also help enhance the competitiveness of Thailand's agricultural economy in overseas market. Whilst, the BAAC attaches great importance to using the research results and information to guide the practical work, responds to the government’s "research-oriented development" policy, and continuously helps improve the living standards of farmers.
Therefore, the signing of this memorandum of understanding will enable farmers, agricultural institutions and the public to obtain agricultural information in a timely manner, adjust production, improve competitiveness in production and marketing, and promote the sustainable development of Thailand's grass-roots economy.
Mr. Apirom Sukprasert, president of the BAAC, said the two agencies have maintained cooperation on academic and information exchanges. For example, they update daily agricultural price information and monthly agricultural price forecast information through Golden Land website and BAAC A-Mobile application. In the future, the two agencies plan to jointly organize academic activities to publicize innovative research results that can increase the added value of agricultural products and promote agricultural development, which will bring benefits to farmers, agricultural institutions and the public, and help improve the basic economy and improve the living standards of farmers.
