6,459 enterprises registered in July 2019, up 8 percent from a year earlier, with construction still being the most popular choice, according to Thai MOC

Abstract : In July 2019, the number of newly registered enterprises nationwide was 6,459, an increase of 873 or 16 percent compared with last month's 5,586, and an increase of 495 or 8 percent compared with last July's 5,964, according to Thailand's Ministry of Commerce (MOC).

InfoQuest (August 27, 2019) -- In July 2019, the number of newly registered enterprises nationwide was 6,459, an increase of 873 or 16 percent compared with last month's 5,586, and an increase of 495 or 8 percent compared with last July's 5,964, according to Ms. Sorada Lertharpachit, deputy director general of the Department of Business Development (DBD) of Thailand's Ministry of Commerce (MOC).

In terms of the number of new enterprises, construction took first place with 596 new entrants, followed by real estate with 330 and catering. The combined commercial capital of all newly registered enterprises in the month was 22.866 billion Thai baht, an increase of 7.719 billion Thai baht or 51 percent compared with last month's 15.147 billion Thai baht, and a decrease of 3.488 billion Thai baht or 13 percent compared with last July's 26.354 billion Thai baht.

At the same time, 1,594 enterprises applied to deregister in the period, an increase of 330 or 26 percent compared with last month's 1,264, and a decrease of 94 or 6 percent compared with last July's 1,688. In terms of the number of enterprises canceling registration, general construction topped other industries with 143 applicants, followed by real estate with 99 and management consulting with 31.

As of July 31, 2019, a total of 739,922 enterprises were in operation nationwide, with a combined capital of 16.85 trillion baht. Among them, 184,293 were limited partnerships/general partnerships, accounting for 24.91 percent, 554,381 were limited companies, accounting for 74.92 percent, 1,248 were listed companies, accounting for 0.17 percent.

Regarding the trend of newly registered enterprises, the deputy director-general said that their analysis and evaluation of GDP growth rate, economic situation, society and Seasonal Trend of registered enterprises show that in general, the newly registered enterprises in the third quarter would see an increase compared with the second quarter, but economic and political risk factors may still affect the business establishment in the third and fourth quarters.

According to relevant data on investments made in accordance with the provisions of the Thailand Foreign Business Act, in July 2019, a total of 64 foreign investments were approved, including 25 business license approvals and 39 business scope certificate approvals, with a total investment of 10.822 billion Thai baht. In terms of the investment amount, Japan topped the list with 18 investments worth over 4.502 billion Thai baht, followed by Singapore, with 9 investments worth over 1.154 billion Thai baht, and China's Hong Kong, with 6 investments worth 2.88 billion Thai baht.
