There was a fashion extravaganza in Jing’an District this week when it hosted the Shanghai Fashion Week, which concluded on Wednesday.
The opening ceremony was held at a century-old building along Suzhou Creek, which once housed China’s first modern chamber of commerce. It reopened last year as a high-end dining venue after a seven-year renovation.
Chinese-American fashion designer Vivienne Tam presented 48 looks, from casual blazers to embroidered gowns.
It’s the first time she has missed the New York Fashion Week, instead choosing to launch her new collection in Shanghai.
Meanwhile, the HKRI Taikoo Hui mall on the bustling Nanjing Road W. has become an emerging “fashion runway.”
Several fashion shows, from domestic brand Erdos to French street-style luxury brand Faith Connexion, have been presented in the mall. Pop-up stores created more interaction with customers.
One of the top fashion events, BoF China Summit was held in the mall, with the involvement of luxury groups such as LVMH and influential retailers including Shanghai-based online mall Xiaohongshu. They discussed how China’s fashion power is making its voice heard in the world.
“I believe that this year China will surpass the United States to become the world’s largest fashion market,” said Imran Amed, founder of BoF. He said he was greatly impressed by how fast China is blazing new trails.
