BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhua) –- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is willing to take part in the Belt and Road construction, stated ADB president Takehiko Nakao here at a news briefing on Tuesday.
In fact, some of the initiatives proposed by ADB coincide with the Belt and Road Initiative, said the ADB chief, adding that if there are suitable projects, the two parties should make joint efforts to further strengthen project collaboration.
During his visit to China, Nakao met with relevant heads of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to discuss how to further push forward the partnership between China and ADB, and meanwhile signed relevant memorandum of understanding (MOUs).
The ADB president reiterated that since China joined ADB in 1986, the two sides have been developing a constructive cooperation, and the bank will continue to reinforce cooperation with China in multiple fields.
Founded in 1966 with a mandate to lift hundreds of millions of Asians out of poverty, ADB, headquartered in Manila, capital of the Philippines, has about 68 members, 49 of which are from the Asia-Pacific region. (Edited by Yang Yifan, yangyifan@xinhua)
