A new trade fair in Hannover is to focus on the SME sector’s need to catch up when it comes to digitization. The "Twenty2x," which will be held in March 2020, will feature solutions for handling sensitive customer data and for protection against cyber attacks, Deutsche Messe AG announced on Monday. "Our objective is to help small and medium-sized businesses along their digitization journey so that they are ready for the future and better positioned in their respective competitive settings," said Andreas Gruchow, a member of the board of management at Deutsche Messe AG.
Following the end of Cebit last year, the new "Twenty2x" will now concentrate primarily on small companies. Many run the risk of being left behind in the development of new digital business models, Deutsche Messe said during the announcement.
According to figures from the state-owned development bank KfW, only 30 percent of the approximately 3.8 million SMEs invested in the use of such technologies between 2015 and 2017. The bank has concluded that there is a need for further investment to help the companies catch up. The fair therefore is aimed at managing directors and decision-makers in the IT sector in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
In Hannover, the state capital of Lower Saxony, companies will be able to find out about changed working conditions and new operational procedures. How to deal with new technologies such as the mobile radio standard 5G will also be on the agenda of the three-day event.
