German industrial production rose unexpectedly in March, climbing 0.5 per cent compared to the previous month, the German statistical agency Destatis reported on Wednesday.
Analysts had expected a decline of 0.5 per cent on the month, but the agency also corrected February's growth estimate down from 0.7 per cent to 0.4 per cent.
Overall, industrial production rose 0.5 per cent in the first three months of the year, according to Germany's economy ministry.
Stronger construction led the gains while other manufacturing sectors have seen a dip. The ministry warned of "dampened" growth in the manufacturing industry.
