BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The total supply of China's agricultural products will remain sufficient this year and the grain output will increase slightly, predicted by China's Agricultural Sector Development Report 2019 released on Monday.
According to the report, in 2018, the agricultural production grew steadily, the upgrading of agricultural products consumption was accelerated and the structural reform of agricultural supply side achieved remarkable results. Among them, with the strong consumption, the market price of corn rose steadily. The soybean yield increased while the imports decreased.
The reports says, China will continue to attach importance to and strengthen support for agriculture and grain production this year, and the grain output will increase steadily with stable prices. It is predicted that the output of rice, wheat and corn will reach 0.21 billion tons, 0.13 billion tons and 0.26 billion tons respectively.
The report predicts, in 2019, the cropped area of vegetables will be 20 million hectares, a slight decrease from 2018; the cropped area and output of cotton will see decrease; and affected by the African swine fever epidemic, there will be an uncertainty in the pork market.
China's Agricultural Sector Development Report 2019, launched by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, adopts a large number of cutting-edge research methods and analyzes the development trend of agricultural production in 17 areas including grain, oilseeds, livestock products and aquatic products.
